Downsizing will be director Alexander Payne’s first movie since Sideways (for which Payne won an Oscar for adapted screenplay), Variety reports. The new comedy will star Paul Giamatti and Reese Witherspoon as a married couple who opt to retire as "little people." Also in the cast is Sacha Baron Cohen, who will reportedly play both a tiny Spaniard and his regular-sized twin brother. There’s no word yet on when the film will be released, as Payne is still tinkering with the script.

Reese Witherspoon and Alexander Payne together again! Awesome!
I’ve enjoyed all Payne’s movies, and I’m glad to see him reunite with both Giamatti and Witherspoon. But man, is that an “only in Hollywood” couple, or what?
Reese Witherspoon and Paul Giametti as a married couple? Pu-leeze!
that might be THE most bizarre pairing ever…but it’s an intriguing premise and both of them are great actors. Alexander Payne is a pretty cool filmmaker too, so I can’t wait!
YAY!
I’ve been following Payne’s career since “Citizen Ruth,” and I think he’s gotten better with each film… This sounds like an intriguingly odd premise, and I’m excited to see that Witherspoon (such a hoot in “Election”) and Giamatti (so good in “Sideways”) are going to be working with him again.
Yay! I’ve been a fan of Payne’s work since “Citizen Ruth,” I was just wondering what he’s been up to lately… This sounds like an intriguingly odd premise, and I’m excited to see Witherspoon (such a hoot in “Election”) and Giamatti (loved him in “Sideways”) working with him again.
Excuse the double post — my browser was being a pain in the butt.
BTW, nice to see Cohen on board, too; I haven’t seen much of him as his “Ali G Show” characters, but he’s done some good work in stuff like “Talladega Nights” and “Sweeney Todd.”
In what world is it at all believable (or even acceptable) that Reese Witherspoon would be married to Paul Giamatti? Not okay, PTB.
I heard that Meryl Streep will be in the film as well! Nice!
Can’t wait to see this film.
