Slumdog Millionaire‘s Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and producer Christian Colson will see that Rubina Ali and Azhruddin Mohammed, two of their Best Picture’s young costars, will move into new homes with their families in the coming months. "These are bricks and mortar flats. They will have electricity, running water and good sanitation. They will still be close to their friends and extended family," Boyle tells the Daily Mail. After the film wrapped, the poverty-stricken children were set up at a local school and with trust funds — but some wondered whether producers and distributors of the movie should’ve done more for Rubina (the young Letika) and Azhruddin (the young Salim), who’ve helped the film gross more than $160 million worldwide and earn eight Oscars. In addition to the new homes, the children will also have a rickshaw driver to take them to and from school every day for the next eight years and a social worker to ensure their general well-being, the Daily Mail reports. A separate fund has been set up for the street children of Mumbai.
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority in Mumbai has also said it wants to give Azharuddin and Rubina new homes for making the country proud.
Andy Richter will reunite with his old Late Night buddy, Conan O’Brien, NBC announced today. The comedic actor has signed on as the announcer of NBC’s The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, which begins June 1. Richter — who gave up his post as Conan’s Late Night sidekick in 2000 and went on to headline two TV series, Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Andy Barker, P.I. — will also be seen in the new show’s comedic bits. There was apparently a tease of this reunion last week: Richter returned to O’Brien’s couch for his final Late Night telecast on Feb. 20.
