Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema, the team behind the hit remake of Friday the 13th, are now working on a second film based on the horror franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The trade paper reports that sources say Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the original reboot, are working on a script for a new movie, but that it will not be a sequel so much as a follow-up. Jason Voorhees will still be the killer, but the new project will reportedly use the original franchise more as ajumping-off point than as a template. The first reboot incorporated elements from the first four Friday the 13th slasher films, but producers are said to be less interested in plot elements from the original franchise’s remaining six movies. Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate to helm the Friday follow-up, THR adds.
