Indie rockers MGMT have sued French President Nicolas Sarkozy for using their song "Kids" in online advertisements without permission, the BBC reports. Sarkozy’s party reportedly says that it used the song inadvertently and has offered to pay the band a symbolic one-Euro fee — an offer that a lawyer speaking for MGMT is quoted as calling "insulting." MGMT’s American label, Columbia Records, had no comment on the story when contacted by EW.

Oh, I love MGMT so much. “Kids” is an amazing song, and I can’t say I would blame Nicolas Sarkozy for using it. They are such an awesome band.
I second that Genevieve. You seem like a really bossome person. In fact, where do you live? What’s your number? What’s your favorite color? Your favorite MGMT song? You know, I think you sound like a sort of Beaverton, Oregon kind of girl. We should totally hang out. Wanna watch Ed Wood this Friday? Bossome, Genevieve. Bossome.
Stranger Danger!!! Stranger Danger!!! Stranger Danger!!! Stranger Danger!!! Stranger Danger!!!
So I find this a strange situation. I wonder if MGMT really cares all that much or if it is just their record label bringing the lawsuit against the French President.
On another topic, what are the chances I come across a comment by someone in Beaverton, OR. Are the comments location specific?
I go to PCC, work at Golf Galaxy (don’t play golf at all), listen to MGMT everyday and my favorite song is Weekend Wars. Lurlene, my e-mail is danestinson@gmail.com and we should meet up for coffee and talk about stuff.
Wow, Beaverton, how random. Haha
Genevieve, you’re hilarious.
Ironically, the French parliament is trying to pass an anti-filesharing bill to reduce copyright infringement now also. In light of that information, and the fact that what he did is just incredibly insulting to two AMAZING musicians, I think that they have every right to the lawsuit, and will hopefully win. At least the public will see how ridiculous Sarkozy really is…
SARKOZY IS NOT RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I live in Beaverton, OR, too! How crazy! This is so cool! I mean, we three should all meet up for coffee. I don’t really know if I want to put up my email, though, because, y’know, stranger danger.
yarrr! Beaverton is da shizzz g & d!
On a side note, I’m really sorry I can’t go to coffee with you because my heart has already been set aside for Andrew VanWynGarden. Rock on MGMT.
Just for the public’s knowledge, I don’t use the word “bossome” (boss+awesome) Thats all G.
How is one to meet if there is no way to contact them. Facebook, Myspace? At least you could see who I am before we meet up but if you are worried and stuff I understand.

Add me as a friend if you feel like it. Peace
I mean really, what is this? Not e-Harmony, thats for sure. We the people should be praising the holiness that is MGMT suing the silly French (and laughing because its sorta funny). Not making coffee dates, even if we do happen to live in P-town. Hey Genevieve, call me
Lurlene, I second that. I will call you immediately.
Alright, my mistake. Just thought coincidences like that don’t happen often so I thought it was a sign or something.
MGMT is an amazingly deep band, with broad artistic abilities. If anyone were to establish a new style of music I believe they could, and they should be recognized for their talent.
The President made a misjudgment and I am sure they will get it settled. Seriously though, one euro. Are they serious! Symbolic for whom. Artists are losing a lot as it is on peer-to-peer sites. If the President of France can get their songs for free how is he supposed to support regulation on those that download illegally? Hypocrite.
Dane, you seem like a great guy and all, and we already checked your Myspace out and stuff like that, but we aren’t really in to coincidences like that. And, for one very good reason: Lurlene and I are 14.
Have a nice day!!!
On the flip side, MGMT is amazing, and I think Oracular Spectacular was possibly the album of the year. Yay to Leah Greenblatt for putting it on her best list! Yaaaaay!!
Wow, that would have been awkward. Haha, my mistake. Well it was still cool to talk to people in the Beaverton area that liked the same music I did. Small world. You two have an awesome life. Peace
Wow. Gotta love irony
