Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal are attached to star in New Line’s contemporized film adaptation of the classic musical Damn Yankees, Variety reports. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo behind New Line’s musical Hairspray, are producing. The story is about Joe Boyd, a happily married middle-aged man makes a deal with the devil to help the hapless pro baseball team he loves. He trades away his soul and is transformed into slugger Joe Hardy, and although he can break the deal, the deadline occurs during the World Series. Meanwhile, the devil enlists a gorgeous lost soul to seduce the slugger and seal his fate. Gyllenhaal is set to play Boyd while Carrey is on tap to portray the devil. The original 1955 Broadway musical won seven Tony Awards.

I do hope you mean Jake will be playing Boyd AND Hardy, he’s too young to only be playing the old man role. So far the casting sounds interesting. I’d be interested to see both of their singing skills (Carrey’s is not as important since that role can be half-spoken).
The next major question is — Who will they get for Lola?

Most of this makes me happy…. but can Gyllenhaal sing? That worries me. I always had a crush on ‘Shoeless’ Joe Hardy! lol!

The need to and MUST consider Christina Applegate for the role of Lola….

-It’s 2010 -Jim Carrey is now wealthy and established and can pick and choose his projects.

    Nonetheless -he continues to opt
for the stale -the routine -and the PC ‘outrageous’.

    —Still -the circle-jerks in the
    comfort-zone don’t seem to care.
