'Clue': Gore Verbinski to direct new movie adaptation of board game

Categories: Film, Games

Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) has been tapped to direct and produce a new adaptation of the game Clue, Variety reports. Like the previous 1985 movie and the classic Hasbro board game on which both films are based, Verbinski’s project will be a murder mystery. It’s the latest Hasbro property headed to the big screen, after Transformers and this summer’s G.I. Joe. Earlier this month, a Candy Land film was also announced.

whaaaaaaa…….? A Candyland movie? How f***ed up is that going to be!
And wasnt Verbinski already working on a BioShock movie?

I am IN LOVE with the original Clue film. In fact, it is one of six movies I actually splurged and bought after renting it too many times. While I think this movie will be better than the remake of RHPS (please kill me) nothing can beat the original.
“Flames, flames, flames… on the side of my face…”
    XD IT’S A CLASSIC!!!!

  • hanna

OMG yes! The original CLue is one of my favs and I am excited for a remake. My dreamcast would be Co. Mustard – Alec Baldwin. Mrs. Peacock – Tina Fey. Prof Plum – Johnny Depp. Mrs. White – Helen Miren. Mr. Green – Robert Downey, Jr. Miss Scarlet – Salma Hayek. (Yes, I’ve been a bit obsessed with 30 Rock as of late)

  • pai

Awwww not a new Clue. I love my old, doesn’t make any sense-but Tim Curry is so good in it that it doesn’t matter version!

  • Zach

Hanna, your picks would be terrific, though I don’t care for Salma Hayek opposite Baldwin (and Fey) on 30 Rock.
Add in Steve Carell as Mr. Boddy and switch Depp for Rainn Wilson, and you’d have a swell crossover episode for NBC as well as potentially great comedy.
But seriously, I hope the casting is good, but whatever happens with this, I’ll be excited. This isn’t like Bonnie and Clyde with Hilary Duff where, even with a more competent actor, it’s a pointless insult to the original.

Well…cautiously interested…the original is one of my favorite films of all time, it’s a complete classic. The reaction of Miss Scarlett to matching sticks with Col. Mustard gets me every time.
    “I..am..your singing telegram…”

The original is BRILLIANT and a total cult favorite. As much as I hate to suggest it, I’d rather have them stick to that style than try something new.
My lame attempt to recast the original: Mrs. White: Catherine O’Hara/ Col. Mustard: Alec Baldwin/ Prof. Plum: Will Arnett/ Mrs. Peacock: Carol Burnett/ Mr. Green: Denis O’Hare/ Miss Scarlet: Teri Hatcher/ Wadsworth: Eddie Izzard

  • BH

It will be hard to top the original but if they do then I like Hanna’s idea for Prof. Plum (Alec Baldwin) but I think Tina Fey would be a better Mrs. White. I would also like to see Ricky Gervais as Wadsworth, Jane Lynch as Mrs. Peacock, William H. Macy as Mr. Green, Will Arnett as Prof. Plum and Marisa Tomei as Miss Scarlett. That is my dreamcast.

Let’s hope this is not another “The Women”horrible and never shoulda been made. The original Clue is one of the funniest movies…”Men should be like Kleenex, soft, strong and disposible”
Dream cast suggestions..Col.Mustard…Anthony Hopkins{classy}Miss Scarlett…Angelina Jolie{hot and can act}I agree that Johnny Depp would be a great Professor Plum…love Tina Fey but WRONG for Clue.I would like to see Shirley Maclaine tackle Mrs.Peacock…

  • BH

Ooops…I meant Alec Baldwin as Col. Mustard.

  • Ford

Maybe if they beg Tim Curry will reprise his role!Best choice for that role.Love the Catherine O’Hara suggestion!{Ms.White}Like William H.Macy too,but not sure if in that role of Mr.Green.
“your first husband also disappeared..” “but that was his job he was an illusionist.” “but he never reappeared” “ahh,he wasn’t a very good illusionist” CLASSIC!LMAO

Nooooo! No one can replace Madeline Khan. I’ll get over it. I think the movie could be cool.

    YES!!! can’t wait colonel mustard

LOVED the original…not pleased with this news, especially based on the director. I don’t think it will be the comedic gem the original is. If it were, however, and had to go on, here’s my cast:
    Mr. Green: Justin Kirk
    Mrs. Peacock: Catherine O’Hara
    Col. Mustard: Alec Baldwin
    Miss Scarlet: Mary Louise Parker
    Prof. Plum: Kevin Kline
    Mrs. White: Parker Posey!
    Wadsworth: Ricky Gervais
Comedy gold in the making! I guess if that were the cast I’d be there opening night! They could certainly do it justice.

  • Karen

It’s just not necessary. The original movie is just brilliant enough. It need not be remade.
I don’t even know WHAT to say about there being a Candyland movie… wha???

  • Nathan

And there’s going to be a Monopoly movie too? Man, you know Hollywood’s desperate for ideas when board game movies are getting green lit.

  • Colleen

Are you kidding? The original is PERFECT. It is one of the funniest movies ever. Blech. What a terrible idea to do another.

  • Pookie

Everyone thinks they are a casting director. SPARE US.

  • Lola

Colonel Mustard: This is a war, Peacock, casualties are inevitable. You can’t make an omlette without breaking some eggs, every cook will tell you that.
Mrs. Peacock: But look what happened to the cook!
The original is a classic and should not be redone!

  • Celimene

Noooo! This can’t be done! Why not just leave the original one alone? Nobody can replace the late, great Madeleine Kahn as Mrs. White. Re-release the first one instead. Turn it into a RHPS-like midnight movie… just don’t remake this!

  • Steph

Okay as much as I am completely terrified of a new Clue, since the 1985 one is the best movie of all time, if it brings out all the Clue lovers like myself out and talking about it, I’m pretty happy.
One plus Two plus One plus One.

  • David

What other nice movies can we destroy? Let’s remake Casablanca as well! (Oh right, Ben Affleck has an option on that.)

  • Jefe

“Let us in, Let us in; Let us out, Let us out!!!”
“I’m going home to sleep with my wife!”
There’s no way they can redo the magic!

  • Jaime

Why does Hollywood feel the need to remake movies? Have they run out of ideas? I have not seen a remake that has been better than the original. Now they are remaking Fame, which is a classic movie and now Clue. Clue is such a great movie. Madeline Kahn is the only Mrs. White and no one can replace her.
“The flames, the flames, on the side of my face. Breathing, Breath, heaving breathes…”

  • shawn d

NO ONE can replace the incredible Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White. NO ONE.
Tim Curry, either for that matter.
This remake is going to suck.

  • Chris Smith

This could turn out to be the worst movie ever made.

  • Verity

I’m so torn! I LOVE the original. Tim Curry is a genius and Madeline Kahn is superb. “Communism was just a red herring.” So at first I wasn’t all that thrilled over the idea of a remake. But then someone mentioned Alec Baldwin and I got all excited at the possibilities so now I’m all confused.
And for those complaining about the lack of ideas in Hollywood, while I agree with you, it’s worth noting that Hollywood has been remaking movies for many decades. Just do some quick research of the movie “Love Affair” and you’ll see just how many times that movie was redone before Annette Benning and Warren Beaty got a hold of it. And classics like “Singin’ in the Rain” actually stole musical numbers and plots from other movies all the time. So just accept that it happens and move on.

  • scheidud

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Say it isn’t so!

  • TK-8541

They will, more likely than not, simply ruin it by casting people like “Ashton Kutcher” and making it full of really bad sexual innuendos and retarded teenage humor.
CLUE = one of the most perfect comedic movies ever!
They might as well remake “Noises Off,” “Lone Star State of Mind,” and “Raising Arizona!”
    I hope I’m wrong.
