Variety is reporting that Cate Blanchett has been cast as Maid Marian in Ridley Scott’s upcoming take on the Robin Hood saga. Russell Crowe is already attached to play Robin Hood in the film, which had originally been called Nottingham but is currently untitled. Filming begins in April with Brian Grazer (Frost/Nixon) producing and an estimated $130 million budget. Sienna Miller had been attached to the role of Marian but left the project last year.

Another Robin Hood film? geeze
I like Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett fine, but this reaks of an “old foggy” version of Robin Hood. I don’t see Russell being able to convincingly play a 20 something year old Robin Hood, and Cate playing a 20 something year old Maid Marion.
Wow. Way to go Hollywood. Yet ANOTHER rehashing of a film or franchise that was worn out, dead, already rehashed once before or whatever. Geez, who’s in talks to play Phoebe Cates’ roll in the remake of Drop Dead Fred?
The actors and director are all good, but another Robin Hood movie? Seems like a waste of so much talent.
Oh, I love Robin Hood. If they make it in the spirit of the old Errol Flynn movie (not the stupid Kevin Costner version), it should be great. However, Crowe needs to go back to his Gladiator level fitness. Otherwise, it won’t work. I’m excited!
I so love the current BBC interpretation of Robin Hood and Marian (except her fate) that I can’t embrace this older telling. I realize that in many versions Robin Hood is older, but Maid Marian is not. Both actors are in their forties. I don’t buy it.
I’m really looking forward to this movie! Where is it written that Robin and Marian must both be in their 20′s? And since when are 44(Crowe’s age) and 39(Blanchett’s age) considered to be old fogies?
This is exciting news! I was glad to learn that Miller had been “released” from the film. She’s such a limited actress.
We can be sure the Crowe/Blanchett/Scott version of a traditional story will be exciting and entertaining. Crowe recently said that “there’s no point in our making a Robin Hood film unless it’s the best one ever”. Here’s hoping it is.
No worries, recent photos show Crowe is already trim and fit looking. He seems to do whatever a film role requires to make his characters come to life. He’s transformed his body countless times for roles. Scott, in a recent interview, said Crowe was ready. He’s even been mastering the bow.
I would have loved to see sienna in this film, i think she can really brighten up the movie screen. Cate is just so uninteresting. I don’t think i’ll even care to see this movie now.
