Miley Cyrus sued in class action lawsuit

Filed under: News and tagged:

Singer Miley Cyrus is being sued for civil rights violations in a $4 billion class-action lawsuit from an Asian Pacific Islander American woman in Los Angeles. According to papers filed Feb. 11 in L.A., Lucie J. Kim of L.A. County claims that the singer "acted in conscious disregard for the rights of her Asian Pacific Islander fans" when she used her fingers to pull her eyes into a slanted shape in a photo that was leaked to celeb website TMZ on Feb. 5. Cyrus has reportedly issued a public apology on her official fansite: "I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context! In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face."

This just goes to prove that anyone can sue for anything, and a lawyer will jump on board to push it through. It will be ridiculous if any judge decides to entertain this sort of lawsuit.

wow…anything for a free buck these days. this is a horrible case – i cant believe it’s being entertained by the court system. we should all have been sued then when we were kids: does anyone remember the childhood rhyme? ‘chinese, japanese, dirty knees, look at these!’???? we cant make funny faces to our friends but we can slam the intelligence of our nation’s leader on a regular basis with abandon. WOW. ignorance rules this country.

I don’t think you can sue someone for just being offensive, It goes against freedom of speech. This should get thrown out of court in about 5 seconds

Seriously, being sued for making squinty eyes in a photo! This is pathetic.

  • Jesse

I hope the judge sanctions the lawyer who filed this complaint for Rule 11 violations and dismisses this case for summary judgment. I can’t think of a more frivolous law suit. A civil-right class action lawsuit against Miley Cyrus for a photo? Are you kidding me?!

This is such a joke. Especially the 4 billion dollars.

  • MDK

hahaha….this is an absolute joke. There’s no way she’ll get any money out of this. I don’t understand why Asians take such offense to this sort of thing. It’s a natural feature of their appearance. Be proud.

  • MDK

although Miley Cyrus doesn’t really deserve any of that money anyway.

This kind of reminds me of that advocacy group for blind people that announced they were going to boycott the Julianne Moore movie “Blindness” because it depicted blind people as monsters. Cyrus was being offensive, no doubt. But this is just another example of an advocacy group trying to gain publicity for itself by latching on to a bigger fish. Way to go EW. You fell for it.

wow it’s true what they say about asians, they would do anything for a quick buck.

  • Jane

Can you sue an underage child for what they say? This lawsuit is ridiculous.

  • Josh

HAHA! This reminds me of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers:
“we hold the world ransom for $100 billion dollars!”

To Jesse: A fellow legal mind!! My first thought “Someone needs to Rule 11 that @ss.” Whoever thought I would use Miley Cyrus (and defend her) as an example in teaching a pleadings class…

Teenagers do stupied things sometimes. Heck, so do adults. But Miley apologized and for someone to sue for a dumb photo between friends…please! There’s one thing I do know, I would not want to be friends or associate with someone who’d launches a class-action lawsuit like this one. Stop wasting time and fight the real fights!

this lady is being stupid and is now what miley did not does not look so bad
