Looks like those new publicists have come in handy: Nadya Suleman, the infamous mother of 14 kids from Whittier, Calif., has given her first interview to NBC News’ Ann Curry. The exclusive interview will air Feb. 9 on Today and on Dateline the next night. NBC reportedly confirmed that it is not paying for the interview.
NBC just released the following excerpt from the interview with Suleman, who already had six children under age 7 before she gave birth to eight more:
Curry: "How did an only child end up with 14 children?"
Suleman: "That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family, and … I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I … I really lacked, I believe, growing up … I didn’t feel as though, when I was a child, I had much control of my environment. I felt powerless. And that gave me a sense of predictability. I … reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn’t functional. It was pretty … pretty dysfunctional, and whose isn’t?"
Suleman made worldwide headlines when she gave birth to octuplets last month. She finally checked out of the hospital today, though the newborns remain hospitalized.

And how much money did they pay her for the interview? Next thing we know there’ll be a woman trying to get pregnant with 12 kids at once so she’ll get multi-million dollar deals …
Apologies, now I see NBC is reportedly not paying. Still, doesn’t stop the book deals from rolling in.
When will this interview air? I can’t find any of that pertinent information anywhere. I assume it would be important…all of the world wants to see what kind of…person this woman is.
Ann Curry was born to do this interview, I’m pretty sure it’s what she’s been building her career towards. She’s sensitive with a soothing voice who knows how to feel your pain, and this is a bit controversial so it’s not a fluff piece.
She needs to check back into a mental hospital. How irresponsible and stupid can one person be? Wait, I think I just described Paris Hilton.
Dr. Phil might have been a better first stop for this sick woman.
She’s going to be the next TLC reality series. Just wait.
Why is this news? It isn’t anyone’s business if this woman wants to have 14 kids. If she had them one at a time this wouldn’t be national news. Leave it alone.
best comment i heard on the subject; someone on another blog noted that “a uterus is not a clown car”
Ann Curry, eh? Why not get the Easter Bunny. Then you’d get slightly harder-hitting questions.
As it stands, we’ve got multitudes of people applying for unemployment benefits now, we’ve got hundreds of thousands of people loosing their homes now, we’ve got hundreds of thousands of people with their families living in their autos right now, and you feel it’s necessary to publicize some woman that rather then working chooses to simply have babies and allow out us taxpayers to pay for her “Screwing around”? I’ll just bet that this woman isn’t even certain of who the fathers of all of these children are. If you think she does, then when she feels up to it, maybe it would behoove your’ producers to get her a spot on the Maury show to determine who the fathers of all of these children are before she drives the local Welfare office broke.
I saw some of the interview on the Today show and I can’t help but think that this woman wants to be like Angelina Jolie. She has the long black hair and looks as though she had some kind of surgery on lips. I could be wrong but her explanation of wanting all these kids is alarming.
Ann needs to interview the irresponsible doctors who implanted these embreyo’s in a SINGLE mother of 6 kids. Then she needs to interview the people of CA who will be paying to raise these babies. Did this woman’s dream include a husband and a job? Just asking.
According to reports every single one of these kids was in vitro. I don’t know how that is possible, but that is what I read. Regardless, the last 8 certainly were!
To “to Dan” when you say “the last 8 certainly were vitro” were you talking about George Bush?
