Jason Katims, writer and executive producer for Friday Night Lights, is set to adapt the movie Parenthood into a new, hour-long comedy-drama series for NBC, Variety reports. The show will reportedly retain the tone of the movie, but with new characters, and withstorylines based on modern challenges in our post-Facebook, post-iPod world. The 1989 movie, which starred Steve Marin, was previously adapted into a short-lived half-hour sitcom in 1990, featuring Ed Begley Jr., Leonardo DiCaprio, David Arquette, and Thora Birch. It also marked one of Joss Whedon’s first TV writing jobs.

Does this mean that FNL will not have a 4th season?? I sure hope not!
If they kill Friday Night Lights for this I will refuse to watch. The Parentood movie wasn’t that great, the series was awful. What makes them think it will be different this time.
As much as I LOVE FNL. I think Season 3 ended the series perfectly. I don’t want a season 4.
Oh and the Parenthood show sounds promising.
