At last night’s SAG Awards, Mickey Rourke, star of The Wrestler, told Access Hollywood that he’s set to participate in the WWE’s Wrestlemania 25, which will take place in Houston on April 5. "The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it," Rourke toldAccess Hollywood. "I said, ‘I want to.’ I’m talking with [WWE wrestler]Rowdy Roddy Piper about it." The actor also hinted at a potential opponent by saying, "Chris Jericho, you better get in shape. Because I’m coming after your ass."

MWC, Mickey does whatever he wants to do. And I don’t know what kind of elitist ass you must be to dissmiss him just because he wants to work a wrestling match. If anything, this will give him more publicity. Who the hell are you to make a statement like that? How many movies have you acted in?
This is good promotion for a great movie and I don’t see how accepting an offer like this should affect his chances to win an Oscar. Pro wrestling is mostly about performance anyway and it would be very relevant to the movie. Penn will win anyway.
The elitist members of The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts & Science won’t buy Mr. Rourke’s wanting to do a wrestling event. I can hear their tongues wagging, “A thespian doesn’t do this.” Well, Mickey Rourke, is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get
kind of actor. He is a true outsider to the Hollywood factory. And that should not be used against him to win the Best Actor Oscar come Oscar night. So come on Academy,
do the right thing and give Mr. Rourke the
Oscar. He nailed that performance!!! Go, Mickey, go. Your fans (including me) love you very, very much. You bring such honesty to the roles you have played in all your films.
Even though MWC put it a lot less delicately, I agree with his (or her) and ia’s point.
As a former wrestling fanatic (now I’m a tourist) I think this is pretty damn cool, however, I can definitely see members of the Academy holding something like this against him. I don’t agree with it (it should be about the work), but they’re human and, especially in a race that close, they can start splitting hairs and look for reasons to choose one candidate over another.
Enough with the elitism crap already. We’re all suffering together these days so give it a rest, will you? And Mickey can do what ever he wants. He has for the last 15 year so why stop now.
This guy is a trainwreck. From gritty movie to fake entertainment. Hollywood is sad.
