Dakota Fanning is in talks to play Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon, according to E! Online. The role would have the 14-year-old actress playing alongside Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The E! report says a source claims the part has been offered to Fanning outright, without auditions, and that the two sides are now in negotiations. Director Chris Weitz is scheduled to start shooting on New Moon in March for a Nov. 20 release.

Ugh… again, no “names” please.
Maybe it won’t be 1/2 a movie of Voltari, but I’m getting the feeling I’m not going to be right about that.
I think this is a great idea. Dakota Fanning has a lot of potential as an actress, and she will do a great job on this.
You’re probably right. Jane has such a small role in the book that I wouldn’t think Fanning would be interested. This must mean that Edward won’t be quite as absent as he was in the book.
I think she has a better chance of accepting the role than there would have been before because she has been working with Summit on PUSH, her movie with Camilla Belle, Chris Evans, and Djimon Hounsou. Summit is obviously trying to build a relationship with a well respected, name-brand actress by offering her roles that other studios might not — her character in PUSH definitely shows her as wanting to breakout and play different types of characters.
I’m sure she would be a little costly, but it would give the movie an interesting amount of name recognition. Although I think I might still prefer an unknown.
Would be cool though. She is a fantastic actress.
When it comes down to it, it would be extremely mutually benificial to both Summit and Dakota to make it work, so I’m thinking they will.
The best part of the book was when they were in Italy. I hope this part of the book is not cut back out all. If anything is going to be slimmed down it should be the middle part of NM. I could so see Dakota has Jane.
ok.fine whatever. just use all your budget to get big names and not on the effects. keep it cheesy.
I think they should get the little girl genius from CSI. That little girl was CREEPY!
I hate Dakota Fanning, she will ruin this movie for me.
OMG! When reading New Moon, and reading about the character of Jane,I never even considered who could play her in the movies, but Dakota Fanning is BRILLENT!!! Please Summitt Ent,HIRE this girl! She will be awesome!!!! This possibility has me so damn excited!
Dakota’s asking price is only like $3m people and if she’s not the star, which she won’t be, I’m sure she’d go for less.
Twilight broke the $300 million dollar mark a couple days ago – they can afford her, were not talking about Reese Witherspoon-kind-of-salary-numbers here.
And the truth of the matter is Summit would be just plain stupid to pass her up if she was interested.
They know Twilight/New Moon can/will due huge bank with no “stars”, but the addition of a incredibly talented, highly respected actress who would draw a whole nother crown to the box office in addition to the Twihard population. It would be super smart business.
Plus Sae is right, they are are building mutually beneficial and profitable relationship for the future if this goes down.
Well,I think Dakota Fanning is a pretty good actress but is it really necessary to have “big names” when it`s about a so little part as Janes…But maybe her part is much bigger in the movie than in the book and I don`t want a cute little girl just smiling to the screen,She should be creepy but still beautiful,a bit psyko…and if Fanning can play a role like that..sure why not…
You also have to remember that even though Jane is a smaller role in this film/book, the character does return later in the series. Personally, I find Fanning a little too old for what I pictured Jane as. Also, she’s more meek and introverted, where I see Jane as strong and demanding. Fanning is a great actress for her age, but IMO this isn’t a good role for her. I could see the little girl from Heroes (Molly) maybe, but I know their are more “creepy” looking kid actors out there.
I think she would be great!
And there is no rule that says just because she is famous that they will expand the role for her. Harry Potter (I know, I know shut up with the HP comparisons, but I had too, it’s a perfect example…) is populated with some of the the most well respected and critically lauded, award winning second bananas in the business, but it’s because it’s fun and challenging and they get to be a part of something indelible in cinema – a beloved phenomenon.
Even still, people do flicks where they barely get 2 scenes in because it’s about what they can do with a character. I mean if you want proof, Judy Dench won an Oscar for 8 minutes of screen time in Shakespeare in Love…
My point (I was getting there) is that Jane is an interesting and challenging, if minimally present character. In the hands of a good actress, like Dakota, they won’t need to expand her screen time in order for her to make an impact.
The girl played totally creepy opposite Robert DeNiro. DeNiro. When she was eleven.
She can handle it.
Know what’s funny… she starred in Cutlass with Kristen Stewart – they didn’t have any scenes together but still… if this does go down, they would definitely be keeping the incestuousness of the group intact.
I’m seriously sorta waiting for TomStu, Eddie Redmayne, Camilla Belle, AnnaLynne McCord, Michael Campon and Ben Barnes all to nab parts – not because they wouldn’t deserve them, but just because it seems likes that’s how things seem to go. Best buds, former co-stars, shared representation and interpersonal recommendation.
