'The Office' casts Idris Elba

Categories: Television

Idris Elba, perhaps best-known for his protrayal of Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire, will appear later this season in six episodes of NBC’s The Office as a rival to Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carrell), Variety reports. NBC is expected to announce the casting at today’s TCA presentation. Elba was most recently seen in Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla.

Anytime a Wire alum gets work, it is a good thing.

Idris Elba is a great casting choise. I was getting concerned for him with some of the projects he had been involved in lately (i.e. prom night). I’ve never seen him in a comedy, so I’m interested to see if he can follow in fellow Wire alum Amy Ryan’s path as she totally blew it away this fall during her guest stint. Elba’s work on The Wire was understated and precise, and I’m confident he will deliver on The Office. I’m not sure if the creative people behind The Office are big fans of The Wire or not, but here’s now hoping that next in line is Michael K. Williams (the fact that the man that created Oman, one of the most multi-layered, charismatic gangsters in recent momeory is not all over the tv and movie screen is a crime that even McNulty couldn’t solve).

I hope we doesn’t get Michael hooked on those WMD’s.

Glad to see Stringer Bell is finally putting that Community College Business Degree to good use.

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://cleaning.emenace.com/cleanroo93/74.html best colon cleanse undefined
